Letters, 1863-1864.

The collection contains three letters written by Dudley E. Buck to his uncle while he served in the Iowa 13th Infantry. The three letters were written near Vicksburg on 1 July 1863, from Clifton, Tennessee, on 5 May 1864, and near Atlanta on 31 July 1864 respectively. In the first letter Dudley recalls a skirmish with Confederate forces and indicates that although he knows he has cousins in the Indiana 54th, which was "In this vicinity," he had not met them. The second letter indicates he has not received any letters from Indiana since his wife Rachel left there, and also laments the poor conditions of the people in the South. The final letter describes in detail a few battles and names some friends who were killed.
